KONA LIBRARY BOOK CLUB
The Kona Library Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of every month unless the library is
closed for a holiday. We meet on the lanai of the library at 11:00 AM.
The Book Club has had another very successful year, with our attendance, once again,
reaching new highs. The participation of our readers is exciting with varied opinions and
interesting stories that relate to our selections. A member facilitates the monthly discussion of
the particular book that she/he has chosen. Our selections include fiction, non-fiction,
classics, mysteries, history, memoirs, science, etc. We encourage those who have never
attended to do so. Come and join in the fun and stimulating discussions.
Each year we feature a local author. Our guest author Tom Peek will be with us in February.
Tom Peek lived his early life on the Upper Mississippi on a backwaters island with Minnesota
river folk, beaver, and ancient burial mounds. After hitchhiking by boat through the South
Seas, he settled on the island of Hawaii where he's lived for two decades. He was a mountain
and astronomy guide on Mauna Kea and an eruption ranger, firefighter, and exhibit writer on
Kilauea, working closely with Hawaiian elders and cultural practitioners on both volcanoes. He
lives with his artist wife in a rainforest cottage near Kilauea's erupting summit.
Light refreshments are served.
