May is filled with special events at our libraries that are sure to delight, including:
- Saturday, May 2, 9 am-4 pm: Free Comic Book Day at the Kailua Kona Public Library, sponsored by F.O.L.K. and Wonderberry’s Comics. In addition to the comic book giveaway, activities include superhero storytime, button making, zine making, Manga Messiah/Manga Mekia — Comics & Scripture in ʻŌlelo Hawai’i Panel with Wayne Lo, and the screening of Batkid Begins. Click the link above for timing on the activities. Those who pick up comics will be given a raffle ticket to win a variety of comic-book-related goodies.
- Thursday, May 7, 2-4 pm: Book Binding Workshop at the Kealakekua Public Library. Help bind together the collaborative writing and creating collection, Nā Leo o Kealakekua. Learn the basics of book construction and how to bind a small book or journal together using the pamphlet stitch. Special take-home kits for all participants.
- Tuesday, May 12, 10 am-12 pm: Ti Leaf Lei Workshop at the Kealakekua Public Library. Learn to make a simple lei from the leaves of a ti plant, something you probably have in your backyard. Explore the ways of preparing the leaves, the cultural significance of the ti lei, and how to customize it on your own.
