Tony was born in Zhongshan, China, and moved to San Francisco at age ten. He didn’t speak English but kept close ties to his heritage by reading Chinese comics and novels borrowed from Chinatown’s library. He often spent hours tucked away, immersed in familiar stories that offered comfort in his new environment.
Tony and spouse Katherine frequently visit their grown daughter in San Francisco, and his parents and sister’s family who reside together in Dublin, CA.
Tony’s lifelong interests span reading, technology, and sports. He read computer manuals for fun during school and now enjoys non-fiction, cookbooks, and the Jack Reacher series.
After the pandemic, Tony and Katherine settled in Kailua-Kona for its natural beauty, where he gardens, tutors online, and helps others build apps and websites using Claude Code AI.
A tennis enthusiast, Tony built a network of 1,500 players in San Francisco and co-founded a platform for tennis players to connect in Kailua-Kona. He is learning woodworking and aims to master Japanese cooking this year, aided by Katherine.
Tony joined F.O.L.K. after spotting a flyer at the library, signing up as a volunteer. He sorts books, moves donated boxes, solves technical issues, assists with book sales, and takes care of maintenance projects. He’s part of the technical team who answers website questions. Libraries have greatly shaped Tony, so he is eager to use his skills and time to help F.O.L.K. Our organization certainly appreciates his ongoing dedication and volunteer activities.
Tony welcomes anyone interested in books, tennis, or computer science to connect with him.
